Kallum's Trail Diary: September

Balancing Nappies, Miles, and Medals
September has flown by in a blur of miles, nappies, and finish lines! Our newest arrival is now over five weeks old — everything’s going great, and sleep is finally starting to improve (a little!). Despite the life adjustments, I’ve managed to keep training fun and varied with three shorter races this month.
Bradenham Blast Trail Half – 7th September
First up was the Bradenham Blast Trail Half, a fun, low-key local race that winds through the Chiltern Hills. It’s one of those community events that perfectly captures why I love trail running — friendly faces, muddy legs, and a proper challenge. I had a great day out and came away with 1st place, which was a nice confidence boost to start the month.

6 Stage Road Running Relays – 20th September
A couple of weeks later, I swapped the trails for tarmac to represent my running club in the 6 Stage Road Running Relays. Each leg was around 6 km, and the field included some of the top road runners in the country. It was fast, competitive, and a brilliant way to sharpen up before marathon day.

Dorney Lake Marathon – 27th September
To round out the month, I took on my first ever road marathon at Dorney Lake. The main goal was to secure a Championship Qualifying time for London 2026, which meant running under 2 hours 38 minutes. I’m thrilled to say I finished 1st overall in 2:32 — mission accomplished! The pace felt strong and consistent throughout, thanks in no small part to a few Harrier hydration flasks loaded with carb drink.

What’s Next?
Next up is the Centurion A100 miler on 18th October — a local, flat but competitive trail race that loops along the Thames Path.
-
A goal: sub-14 hours
-
B goal: sub-15 hours
-
C goal: finish without injury!
The build-up hasn’t been ideal — I was injured over the summer, and between the new baby, work, and family, the mileage hasn’t been huge. Still, I’m feeling sharp and fast, and really looking forward to race day.
After that, the next big focus will be the Arc of Attrition 50 miler in January.
Here’s to cooler weather, longer runs, and a few more finish line smiles before the year’s out.
