The Harrier Race Vest Story
In November 2019 Kate Mackenzie decided she didn't want to pay the high prices other brands charged for their race vests anymore. Neither did she want one of the cheaper alternatives discount stores offered 😩
"I started by using my own experiences as a trail, fell and ultra runner for many years to pick out the features that were essential for my running. I was then able to drop out the unnecessary, or poorly designed features for a more simple but practical race vest."
After several prototypes and lots of testing, the 5L Curbar and 10L Kinder were developed. Named after Kate's favourite places to run in the UK's Peak District 😊 These race vests are for those who want simple but effective kit to do what's most important, enjoy the trails.
The Race Vests
Kinder 10L Race Vest
Ideal for longer runs and carrying a medium to large amount of kit. Such as two soft flasks, snacks 🍫, hat and gloves, waterproof jacket. Additional warm layer, waterproof trousers or water bladder in the back compartment.
Bungee cords on the back allow pack to be drawn in to stop bounce. Best for those that want to carry a larger amount of kit for more remote runs or during winter. 🥶
Curbar 5L Race Vest
Ideal for carrying a small or medium amount of kit. Such as two soft flasks, snacks, hat and gloves 🧤, waterproof jacket easily.
Stretchy fabric for a comfortable fit whether carrying full or with minimal items. Great for beginners and advanced alike! 😊
Curbar 5L - perfect for carrying the basics. Kit list could include 2 x 500ml soft flasks, snacks, lightweight waterproof jacket, spare layer, first aid kit, emergency survival bag.
Kinder 10L or *Stanage 10L - all of the above plus extra capacity for more remote or colder runs when you want to carry additional spare clothing or waterproof trousers.
*The 10L Stanage race vest has the same features as the 10L Kinder but is specifically designed for XL and XXL sizing.
It's important to consider your race vest to match your training, not just the race you are aiming for. During races and events you have multiple checkpoints and support.
Leading up to your event, your training runs will increase in distance and time spent out. No checkpoints available on these days!
Choose your race vest to match your hardest training runs. If you are aiming for a spring marathon distance, you will need to do hard training runs in the winter. This means that a 10L will be much better for you during these runs as you will need to carry warm layers, additional water, lots of snacks, waterproofs, etc. On race day you will probably carry less water and food as you will be able to restock at regular check points.
See your event details for what support they offer. Futureproof yourself and buy the vest that covers you for everything.

Rather than buy new gear every year, look after your existing kit. Not only is they very much more environmentally friendly, but it will save you money to upgrade to lighter kit and enter more exciting races.
Sew up small holes before they get bigger, wash and re-waterproof your kit according to its instructions, dry it properly after every wash, and sell your old but well-cared-for kit on eBay to raise funds for more.

Wow, I really was impressed with all the kit we tested in the Harrier Ultra bundle. The Kinder 10ltr race vest ran so well over the 38 mile route I tested it on. I was carrying a lot of kit and water and the vest was super comfortable, with very little movement.
The carbon Z-poles performed great going up some of the bigger climbs. Really easy to extend and pack down, worked really well with the pole carrying system on the vest and the hand grips were very comfortable.
All in all I would highly recommend the Harrier kit, I personally think you'd struggle to find better trail running kit at this price point. It really is amazing value!

I love it ! It’s so comfy & you’ve thought of everything. I wore it to watch telly on the first evening & barely noticed I had it on!
